Tidal Spiral Sculpture

A length of 3.7 metres of recycled steel is shaped to form a Fibonacci spiral. The spiral was transported around the coastline of the Cromarty Firth in 2022 where it was left to rust and transform in the tide and weather before being hung from the rafters and exhibited during the Terafabualations show at Inverness Creative Academy.

The audience was invited to 'paint' the sculpture with seawater, adding to the transformation of the surface of the metal.  The action made the structure 'bounces' like a wave and the height of it enabled people to see how high the tidal range was.

3.7 metres is the tidal range of the Cromarty Firth. The sculpture was exhibited with a diptych painting Beyond the Sea.
